Prime for Young Adults, Amazon's student plan: the 6-month trial, $7.49 monthly or $69 yearly price, what it includes and what happens when you stop qualifying.

Amazon's student plan is now called Prime for Young Adults. It is open to students and to anyone aged 18 to 24, starts with a six-month free trial, and then costs $7.49 a month or $69 a year in the US. That is half the $14.99 monthly price of regular Prime, for the same core benefits.

We checked the plan on Amazon's US sign-up page on 24 October 2026. Below is what you get, how the yearly plan compares, and what happens when you stop being eligible.

What the student plan includes

  • Fast, free delivery with same-day, one-day and two-day options on eligible items.
  • Prime Video with limited ads. Removing ads costs an extra monthly fee.
  • Grubhub+, with $0 delivery fees on eligible orders.
  • Amazon Music with Prime, Prime Reading, Amazon Photos and Amazon Luna games.
  • Fuel savings of 10 cents a gallon at participating stations.
  • 5% cash back on eligible items, which Amazon advertises for this plan. Check the terms to see which purchases qualify.

Amazon describes these as full Prime benefits, so you are not getting a cut-down version of Prime for the lower price.

Monthly or yearly: the maths

After the trial, twelve monthly payments of $7.49 add up to $89.88. The yearly plan costs $69, which is $20.88 less. Compared with regular Prime at $139 a year, the student plan saves $70 a year.

The yearly plan only makes sense if you will stay eligible for the whole year. If you graduate or turn 25 in the next few months, pay monthly. Our guide to monthly vs yearly billing explains the trade-off in more detail.

Who is eligible and how to sign up

  1. Go to Amazon's Prime for Young Adults page while signed in to your Amazon account.
  2. Confirm that you are a student or aged 18 to 24. Students usually verify with a school email address or student ID.
  3. Start the six-month trial. Add a payment method; you are not charged until the trial ends.
  4. Choose monthly or yearly billing before the trial ends, or cancel if you do not want to continue.

Amazon may ask you to verify again later. The plan is for personal use only.

What happens when you are no longer eligible

When you turn 25 and are not a student, or your student status can no longer be verified, the membership moves to regular Prime at the full price. Watch your email around your birthday or graduation so the jump from $7.49 to $14.99 a month does not surprise you. If you do not need Prime after that, cancel before the change.
